Assiniboia Downs Gears Up for 2026 Opening Day

Assiniboia Downs is thrilled to announce the return of live Thoroughbred racing for the 2026 season, kicking off on Tuesday, May 12, at 8:30 p.m. Following a record-breaking 2025 meet that saw a 21% increase in total wagering, the track continues its efforts to deliver industry-leading value.
For the second consecutive year, Assiniboia Downs is proud to feature takeouts below 20% across all bet types. In 2025, the average takeout across all pools dropped to a staggering 18.34%, positioning the Winnipeg oval with one of the most competitive takeouts in North America.
To further enhance the wagering experience, the track is introducing some key features for the 2026 season:
- The $3 Prime Pick 3: A brand-new addition to the wagering menu, featuring both an early and a late Pick 3 on every program. With a $3 base wager, this pool is designed to drive higher payouts and provide more value for horseplayers.
- $50,000 Guaranteed Pick 4: The $1 minimum Pick 4 will now feature a $50,000 guaranteed pool from day 1, ensuring that the pool will have significant liquidity right from the start.
Beyond the betting windows, fans on-track have a chance to win big. Throughout the meet, if the longest shot on the board wins the last race, a draw will be held for one lucky fan to spin the prize wheel. Prizes range from $100 to a grand prize of $10,000.

Live racing will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with select Monday cards throughout the 50-day meet. First post is 8:30 p.m.
