The connections of 3-year-old pacing colt Beau Jangles on Monday afternoon (June 29) released a statement that the 2025 Horse of the Year will miss the upcoming Meadowlands Pace because of a lung infection.
“While this isn’t the update we were hoping to share, we know it’s the right decision for Beau,” the ownership group posted on Facebook. The statement, which was first reported by Standardbred Canada, also can be found here on Facebook.
Beau Jangles won all 12 of his races as a 2-year-old, including the Metro Pace and Breeders Crown for freshman male pacers – both Grade 1 stakes – for trainer Dr. Ian Moore, driver Bob McClure and owners Graham Grace Stables, Kiwi Stables, and Bolton Stables. He received both the Dan Patch and O’Brien Horse of the Year awards.
This year, the son of Cattlewash-Mrs Major Hill began his campaign with three wins before finishing third in both his elimination and the final of the Pepsi North America Cup (G1). This past weekend, he was fifth in an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold event at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
For his career, Beau Jangles has won 15 of 18 races and earned $1.42 million (U.S.).
Entries for the Meadowlands Pace are due by 9 a.m. Tuesday (June 30). Eliminations, if necessary, will be Saturday (July 4) at the Meadowlands. The Grade 1 final is July 11 at the Big M.
