Boom! A new seasonal record…

Making his first start since September 8, 2024, pacer Boomboom Tonight picked up right where he left off, posting the fastest mile of the season at Hippodrome Trois-Rivières on Sunday. Driven by Francis Picard for trainer Elisabeth Pothier, the son of Sportswriter also lowered his lifetime mark while recording his 11th career victory.
Boomboom Tonight did it all on his own, and he did it in impressive fashion. From the moment the gate folded, he showed he had no intention of giving an inch to his rivals. He took command in :27.2 despite pressure from Always Be Chris. From there, no challenger was able to threaten him through fractions of :56.2 and 1:25.3.
Bets Beach launched a strong rally around the final turn, and if anyone thought the “Boom” was finished, they clearly underestimated him. He turned back the betting favourite before stopping the clock in 1:54.4, winning by more than a length.
There’s no doubt that Boomboom Tonight has set the stage for plenty of headlines between now and the July 5 final.
Elsewhere, eight-year-old pacing mare Whitemountaincammy pulled off a major upset under the guidance of Marie-Claude Auger, defeating the favoured Silver Majestic in 1:57.4. Sent off at 28-1, the daughter of Yankee Cam earned her first victory of the season the hard way, tracking the torrid pace before overtaking the leader in the stretch. She returned $58.60 to win.
In the other division of the Québec Series for pacing mares, Kiss Me Bad defeated Shanghaibluebeach and Mach N Cheddar in 1:58.
Finally, special mention goes to three-year-old colt Bernard, who suffered his first career defeat after racing the entire mile on the outside. Doc Houston stopped the clock in 1:55.4 for driver Jessica Turenne.
Trois-Rivières hosts the third and final preliminary leg of the Québec-Bred Series for trotters on Thursday. First post is at 5:30 p.m.
