Burke gets training win 12,000

Ron Burke, who on Monday was elected to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame, on Sunday reached another career milestone when he got training win 12,000 with Sea Silk in a division of the Ohio Breeders Championship at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in central Ohio. Sea Silk was one of five Burke winners Sunday.

Burke entered Monday with 12,003 victories, the most for a trainer in harness racing history, and more than 5,000 ahead of second-place Virgil Morgan Jr. Burke has won no fewer than 762 races a year since 2009 and topped 1,000 victories three times.

This year, Burke has won 675 races as he marches toward his 13th consecutive season on top of the trainer standings for victories. He enjoys a cushion of more than 450 wins over second-place Erv Miller.

Burke’s $266 million in career purses also is a record.
