Can Berube get to 100 wins closing day at H3R?

On Sunday, November 6, it will be closing day for the 2022 harness racing meet run by the Quebec Jockey Club at the Hippodrome 3R.

For the fans in attendance there will be free paper programs, special deals and discounts in both the dining room and at the concession stands plus, there will be free prize drawings to win $50 betting vouchers.

On the track the action will, as always, be fast and furious. Driver Pascal Berube, who is winning the driving title at H3R for the third straight year, needs just two wins and he will become the first driver ever to score 100 wins in a single season at H3R.

Berube will be driving in nine of the ten races Sunday. He currently has an amazing lead of 49 wins over rival Stephane Brosseau (98-49) going into closing day.

H3R’s leading trainer in 2022 is once again Sylvain Tremblay, who has 29 wins in his stable going into Sunday. That’s 12 more than Francis Richard in second place. Tremblay has four horses entered Sunday.

A special event will take place in the winner’s circle Sunday at H3R, when the 14-year-old pacer, Adamncam (Camluck), will be officially retired from racing.

In his career, he started 205 times and won 22 times with 33 2nd places and 24 times he was 3rd. Winnings of over C$130,000 and a lifetime record of 1.55.1 taken at Flamboro Downs when he was an eight-years-old.

Norman Beaudoin and his wife Léna Ouellet have owned Adamncam since 2018. Léna has already trained Adamncam to ride with a saddle.

This is the second horse that Beaudoin has raced until retirement time, which is Jan. 1 of their 15th year. In 2018 he retired Windham Hanover at H3R.

“One thing is certain,” Norman Beaudoin stated.” Like our good old Windham, he (Adamncam) will not lack anything in our home.”

On the racetrack closing day, the main event is the 5th race Preferred Handicap Pace with three mares going against two older veteran pacers.

The race favorite is Kiss Me Bad (Badlands Hanover) from post three for owner, trainer and driver, Steven Gagnon of Yamaska. She is on a three-race winning streak, beating this similar field last week in 1:56.

Other contenders are Platine Alpha (post 1), Histoire Enchantee (post 5) and Outlaw Turn N Burn (post 4).

Café Society heads the mares pace in the 4th race. She is coming off a tough 1:56.3 triumph last week for driver Pascal Berube and has now won three of her last four starts.

Post time on Sunday is at 12:00 noon.
