Du Jour looks for consecutive Grade I wins in Monday’s $300,000 Shoemaker Mile

Du Jour will try to make it back-to-back Grade I wins Monday when he takes on 10 rivals in a contentious edition of the $300,000 Shoemaker Mile on turf at Santa Anita.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Du Jour earned his first top-level win in the GI Frank E. Kilroe Mile March 3 at Santa Anita. He finished two lengths clear of runner-up Easter, who also returns in the Shoemaker.

Flavien Prat rode Du Jour in the Kilroe and again has the call. A 6-year-old gelding by Temple City, Du Jour is 17: 6-3-2 with $1,118,220 in earnings for owners Natalie J. Baffert and Debbie Lanni. Last year, Du Jour won the GII Del Mar Mile in September and the restricted Wickerr Stakes at mile in July, both at Del Mar.
