Eight hopefuls chase Ontario Damsel top prize

At 0h02, on October 11, 2025 By Woodbine

On Saturday, October 11, eight 3-year-old fillies will travel 1 1/16 miles over the main track in the $125,000 Ontario Damsel Stakes at Woodbine.

Cue the Duckboats, Madame Obey, No Time, Salt, Shotgun Wedding, Souper Zonda, Tiz Her Money and supplement Will Then are slated to contest the Ontario Damsel.

Trained by Bill Mott, Cue the Duckboats has two wins, two seconds and a third from five career starts ahead of her first stakes engagement.

The daughter of Bernardini out of the City Zip mare Conquest City Girl heads into Saturday’s race off a 1 ¼-length win over one mile on the Saratoga dirt on September 1.

Trainer Jamie Begg will send out ultra-consistent Shotgun Wedding.

Sporting a record of 2-3-3 from 11 starts, accompanied by $131,508 in purse earnings, the daughter of Mendelssohn out of the Speightstown mare Reluctant Bride posted a half-length win at 6 ½ furlongs on the Woodbine main track on September 7 and followed it up with a second, a half-length back of the winner, over one mile on the Toronto oval inner turf on September 21.

“The reason I wheeled her back in the most recent race was to make sure she could get the distance,” said Begg, who has already set a career-best mark in yearly purse earnings ($626,969). “She is doing very well.”

Kevin Attard has won four editions of the Ontario Damsel, including three straight victories from 2019-21. The champion trainer sends out Salt in this year’s running.

First post time is 1:05 p.m.
