Fillies in the limelight in Breeders Trophy Series

Sunday (Aug. 20) is the final preliminary round of the Breeders Trophy Series at the Hippodrome 3R. There are four $7,500 divisions for the three-year-olds, two for the fillies and two for the colts and geldings. And it’s the fillies that will be in the limelight.

After Sunday’s third leg of the series, the top eight point earners will return to H3R on September 10 for their respective $65,000 finals.

The first division is the 3rd race first division for the fillies and featured is Pocahontas Du Lac (Betterthancheddar) from post four for driver Pierre-Luc Roy. Pocahontas Du Lac is going for her third straight win for trainer David Pilon.

The filly was bred by three-time O’Brien Award winner, Louis-Philippe Roy (LPR), who co-owns the filly with his older brother Pierre-Luc along with Maude Larouche and Jean Allaire.

LPR just revealed that he will be coming to H3R on Super Sunday, September 10, to drive on the rich day when all eight Quebec Championship Finals will take place.

The second filly division is the 6th race where Pocahontas Du Lac’s main rival, Ladycorona (Bettors Delight) is going for her fifth straight win. She starts from post five for driver Pascal Berube and trainer Yves Tessier.

Her record this season is 1:55.2, just one-fifth of a second off the H3R track record for three-year-old pacing fillies. She has won 6 of her 11 starts this season for owner-breeder Sotirios Anastasopoulos.

The colts and geldings get underway in the 5th race where Kansas Panic (Sunshine Beach) is the race favorite and will be driven for the first time by Pierre-Luc Roy. Kansas Panic has been either first or second in his last six starts for trainer David Pilon and owner-breeder Brian Paquet.

The 9th race second division features Fantome En Joie (Shadow Play) from post three for driver Stephane Brosseau. He has won five of his last seven starts, all at H3R for trainer Maxime Velaye and owner-breeder Guy Corbeil.

First race post time on Sunday is 12:00 noon.
