Freehold Raceway will host a unique event on Saturday (Oct. 9), as eight Italian drivers will square off in the Italian Heritage race, sponsored by Peter and Mary Grandich.

The Italian Heritage race is scheduled as the sixth race on the card, with a post time of 2:10 p.m. Three regular Freehold drivers will contest the race. Vinny Ginsburg has the drive on Frankie Boy, from post position three for trainer Brandon Mongiello. Eric Abbatiello is on morning-line favorite Doctor Butch, trained by Mike Annunziata and leaving from post position six. Jim Marohn Jr. will drive Steady Pulse from post position seven, for trainer Nicole DiCostanzo.

The rest of the field, from the inside out, is Bolder, with driver Joe Faraldo for trainer Frank Kero; Rufo, driven by Joe Martin for trainer Julius Czermann; Stakeout, with driver Tony Verruso for trainer Phil Jasper; Walleywalleyinfree, driven by John Calabrese for trainer Dennis Watson; and Papaimento, driven by Paul Fusco and trained by Ken Tisa.

The Saturday program also features the second leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Jm’s Finaltreasure, winner of the Renaissance Pace two weeks ago on this track, is the overwhelming 2-5 morning line favorite from post position five, for trainer Ron Burke and driver Austin Siegelman. Last week, he won a division of the Bluegrass Stakes at the Red Mile in 1:50.4. That race is scheduled as the third on the card, with a listed post time of 1:10 p.m.

Post time for the first of 13 races on the Saturday card at Freehold is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
