On Monday (Aug. 8), freshman trotting fillies will visit Monticello Raceway for the fifth leg of the seven-leg New York Sire Stakes series. Total purses for the ladies will exceed $140,000.

Two heats of NYSS will compete for $52,500 and $53,500. There will also be two divisions of the Excelsior A class worth $15,000 and one Excelsior B Class worth $6,400.

Race four features the $52,500 first division of NYSS with six contestants. Bourbon On Ice (post two) has been installed the 5-2 morning line favorite for trainer-driver John Stark Jr. She was sharp in a qualifier, where she scored in a four length, wire-to-wire 2:00 win. She also has a second place performance in this company.

EL Mission Goddess (post five) has banked $35,911 in the young season. She won a NYSS event in her second lifetime start at Buffalo Raceway in 2:01.4, and will be driven by regular pilot Jim Marohn Jr.

The second division, worth $53,500, is a seven-horse field. Defiant Lady (post six) is looking to shed her role as a bridesmaid for trainer Dave Dewhurst. The offspring of Devious Man has finished second three times this season. Jason Bartlett will drive.

Jigger Of Gin will be hampered by the outside post seven. She has dominated the Excelsior A class with two wins and two place performances. This will be her first start in the class for trainer-driver Phil Fluet.

Woolco broke her maiden in her last start at Yonkers, where she toured the oval in 1:59.3 in a NYSS win. She is trained by Robert Krivelin and will be driven by Tyler Buter.

The track record for 2-year-old trotting fillies is 1:57.3 set by Lima Novelty in August 2017.

Post time for the 10-race card is 12:10 p.m.
