Taking the main track in race three on Breeders’ Cup Friday, all eyes will be on twelve Cal-bred fillies going 7 furlongs for the $175,000 purse – the same value as the boys in race five.
A pair of identical favorites, Liberation and Too Sassy, are 9-2 on the morning line. Liberation, by Omaha Beach, is trained by John Sadler and she has two wins and two shows on her record. She was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises and owned by Hall Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds and Barker. Her last outing, she kicked into high gear in the late moments winning the race. Too Sassy, by Om, out of Windy Ridge Stables, has two wins and a show in her career. She was bred in California by Hugh Yamshon, Woodbridge Farm LLC and trainer Sam Scolamieri. This filly isn’t a stranger to a good duel in the stretch, but her stamina has never been tested beyond five and a half furlongs.
Miss Kona won her last outing at Del Mar back in August, going six furlongs with Antonio Fresu in the seat. He mounts again Friday with the morning line at 7-2, with trainer Peter Eurton in her ear.
Bred by Richard Barton Enterprises and owned by Legacy Ranch, Mohaven is 4-1 on the morning line. Trained by John Sadler, she finished second in her last race against Too Sassy and Liberation, finishing the Del Mar summer meet with one win and two place finishes. Hector Berrios takes the ride.
Dan Blacker trains Cee Drew with only one race on her record. She closed from behind and surged to the front at Santa Anita earlier this month to win her debut. Bred and owned by My Way Racing, Jose Ortiz rides the filly.
Coming in first in her last outing is Cashed and she’s 10-1 on the morning line. Bred and owned by Reddam Racing LLC, she’s out of Doug O’Neill’s barn. Expected to help set the pace of the race, rider Tyler Gaffalione is looking to come out on top.
Post time for the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Stakes is 3:45 PM.
