Steel City Stable and David Fawkes Racing Inc.’s Greenfield Cougar will get her footing in Sunday’s $70,000 Little Miss Holly at Gulfstream Park.
The Fawkes-trained 4-year-old filly, a three-time winner on Tapeta, will seek a return to Gulfstream Park’s winner’s circle in the 5 ½-furlong overnight handicap for fillies and mares on the all-weather surface.
“I think Tapeta is better for her than turf because she struggles on the turn on turf because it gets a little tight for her,” Fawkes said. “She had a bullet workout on Tapeta last week. I’m very happy with her.”
Greenfield Cougar, who most recently closed in the stretch to finish second on turf in a five-furlong allowance, breezed a half-mile in 46.60 seconds last Sunday in preparation for the Little Miss Holly. The workout time was the fastest of 15 recorded at the distance.
Samy Camacho is scheduled to ride Greenfield Cougar for the first time.
“What will I tell him? ‘Break out of there and let her sit there and leave her alone on the turn. She knows how to make the turn,’” Fawkes said. “Fight her and she wants to fight you back.”
The daughter of Breaking Lucky, who is priced at 6-1 on the morning-line, will carry 121 pounds, three fewer than Victor Barboza Jr.-trained stablemates Great Venezuela and Tiffany Gold.
