After a harsh winter, Hippodrome Trois-Rivières will open its 2026 season this Sunday, May 10, with first post at noon.
For this first event of approximately 40 race programs scheduled this season, racing secretary and general manager Guillaume Cayer-Richard has assembled a 12-race card featuring purses totaling more than $53,000.
The feature event brings together nine trotters from the Preferred class competing for a $7,000 purse. One of the headliners in Race 6 will be The Canam Banker, who won his most recent start last year in 1:58.3 at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Trained by Carl Duguay, he will, however, face the challenge of starting from post position 8 after a five-month layoff.
Attention could also turn to the mare Saulsbrook Cami from the stable of Yannick Martel, who will leave from post 3 behind the starting gate. Fans may remember the daughter of Alarm Detector, who stopped the clock in 1:58 over the local track in 2025. Driven by Stéphane Brosseau, Saulsbrook Cami has enjoyed a strong start to the season, notably at Flamboro Downs, where she captured a wire-to-wire victory in 1:59 from post position 7.
Rounding out the field are Rose Run Why Not, Kenogami Coco, Cleveland Massimo, Royalty B N, Greenleaf, MVPS Daughter and Yes.
It should also be noted that this year, Hippodrome Trois-Rivières is reintroducing claiming races, which will return after an absence of more than 15 years. Owners will therefore be able to offer their horses for sale at predetermined prices based on the race conditions. Next Sunday, ten horses will be available to potential buyers at prices ranging from $5,000 to $12,000.
A weekend event not to be missed in Trois-Rivières. First post is at noon, while the “It’s Official” show featuring Guy Lafontaine and Ghislain Paquet will begin at 11:15 a.m.
