Lure Him In has been lured back to South Florida, where the Florida-bred gelding has been entered to seek his fifth career victory over the Gulfstream Park turf course in Saturday’s $75,000 Sunshine Turf.
The Bob Hess-trained son of Khozan is among three Florida Sire Stakes-nominated horses in the seven-horse field eligible for a $25,000 ‘Win Only Bonus’ in the 1 1/8-mile turf stakes for older Florida-bred horses, which will co-headline Saturday’s program with the $75,000 Sunshine Filly and Mare Turf, a mile turf stakes for older fillies and mares bred in Florida.
“As an out-of-state horse he fit well with the ship-and-win program in Southern California, but as a Florida-bred, he really belongs here,” trainer Bob Hess Jr. said. “We’re looking forward to having a good 2022 with him in Florida.”
Lure Him In was claimed by David A. Bernsen LLC, Robert Anderson, Robert Felkin, Gary Jacobs, Jeffrey Lambert, and Jess and Susan Susi for $40,000 out of a July, 2020 victory at Gulfstream. He came back to finish second in the Bear’s Den Stakes at Gulfstream before joining Hess’ Southern California stable. The Stonehedge LLC homebred also went on to finish in the money in six consecutive races, including a third-place finish in the Tokyo City Cup (G3) at Santa Anita. Most recently, he captured a 1 ¼-mile optional claiming allowance at Santa Anita and finished third in an optional claiming allowance at Del Mar.
“He’s been a very useful kind of horse. He runs on all surfaces and he’ll run all day long,” Hess said, “but a mile and an eighth should hit him right in the sweet spot.”
Junior Alvarado is scheduled to ride Lure Him In for the first time Saturday.
