Trainer Kevin Maguire swept both divisions of the Quebec-Bred Series for older male trotters as Paradise Moni and Royalty Beer posted impressive victories Thursday evening at the Trois-Rivières racetrack.
Paradise Moni was the first to score, stopping the timer in exactly 2:00 after a determined effort. Starting from post two with Denis St-Pierre in the bike, the son of International Moni allowed Kenogami Coco and Frido P V to set the pace through an opening quarter in :29.4. Paradise Moni did not assume command until after the half-mile mark in :58.3. At the three-quarters in 1:28.3, Kenogami Coco launched a challenge, setting up an exciting stretch battle. Paradise Moni ultimately prevailed by a head to record his second win of the season.
The other division proved easier for Royalty Beer, who led from wire to wire and defeated Last Try by four lengths in 1:59.1 with Pascal Bérubé in the sulky. The victory was Royalty Beer’s seventh in 17 starts this season.
In the mares’ division, Chic Choc Rose rallied gamely from the back of the pack to overtake MVPS Daughter in the stretch, stopping the timer in 2:00.4. The Carl Duguay trainee, who previously campaigned at Woodbine Mohawk Park, notched her third victory of the year.
The next racing program at Trois-Rivières is scheduled for Sunday beginning at noon.
