Mares take on Horses in H3R Preferred-Handicap

At 1h38, on October 9, 2022 By STEVEN WOLF

It’s the classic battle of the sexes at the Hippodrome 3R Sunday (Oct. 9) afternoon as both Better Kissthe Men (Betterthancheddar) and Twin B Betty (Bettor’s Delight) take on four of the top male pacers this season.

It’s a holiday weekend of racing at H3R with the Sunday program starting at 12:00 noon and then there is a special live race card on Monday (Oct. 10) starting at 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

The additional Monday race card is devoted to the Quebec Regional Fair Circuit.

The two mares in Sunday’s top event were able to draw for posts one and two with Twin B Betty (post 2) made the 5/2 morning line favorite in the 6th race feature.

Since coming to Quebec from Northfield Park in the USA, Twin B Betty has been nearly unbeatable in her three starts at H3R. Trained and co-owned by Jean-Francois Maguire with 9299 0522 Quebec, Inc. and Julie Malenfant.

In just her second start at H3R, Twin B Betty with driver Robert Shepherd wired the field in 1:54.2, the fastest win by any mare this season. She has won two straight races and three of her four last starts.

Better Kissthe Men drew the rail and returns to H3R after a stint at Grand River Raceway. She has won three of her last five starts including a lifetime best 1:55 mile. In fact, her last start at H3R was back on November 7, 2021 when she won in 1:58.4.

Steven Gagnon will be in the sulky to drive Better Kissthe Men, who when on the lead early, has not lost a race.

Leading the way for the male rivals is Histoire Enchantee (Shanghai Phil) from post three for trainer-driver Simon Delisle.

The eight-year-old gelding has never been better as of late and enters on a two-race win streak and having won five of his last six starts at H3R.

Windsun Cheyenne (Cam’s Card Shark) in post 6 is the oldest horse in the field at age 12, yet he has the most wins of the field this year with six victories for owner-trainer Gina Bragagnolo of Lavaltrie. He will be driven by Pascal Berube, who has won three of the last four times he has driven Windsun Cheyenne.

First race post time on Sunday is 12:00 noon, special Monday card post time is 1:00 pm.
