The Next Generation Is Ready to Prove Itself

The next generation of racehorses will look to impress fans on Thursday, July 23, at Hippodrome Trois-Rivières in the opening leg of the Coupe de l’Avenir for two-year-old trotters. With 11 fillies and four colts entered, two mixed divisions will be contested in Races 3 and 5.
Two-year-old racehorses remain the ultimate unknown, carrying the hopes of their breeders, trainers and owners. They must now gain the experience needed to show that their genetic potential justifies the time, effort and money invested in them. This is where the exceptional contenders will begin to emerge.
The spotlight will be on DM Kamille in the first division. The daughter of Muscle Mass is a half-sister to Kenogami Coco, who is well known to local racing fans. He recently won in the Preferred class, owns a lifetime mark of 1:53.4 and has earned more than $350,000.
Trained by Daniel Martin, DM Kamille will start from post two with Pascal Bérubé in the sulky. In her qualifying race ahead of her pari-mutuel debut, she gamely overcame an 11-length deficit at the half-mile mark to finish less than a length behind the winner, covering the final portion of the race in 30 seconds.
Castellano draws attention in the second division. The son of Muscle Mass is a half-brother to Sant Ambroggio, who took a lifetime mark of 1:57.2 at Grand River Raceway and finished third in the Québec-Bred Series final for horses aged four and older at Trois-Rivières on July 5.
Trained by Jean-François Maguire, Castellano will leave from post five with Denis St-Pierre driving. Owned by his breeder, Marc Kirouac of Sherbrooke, he impressed in his career debut on July 8 at Grand River. Despite finishing third in a division of the Ontario Prospect Series, he closed the race with a final quarter in 28.3 seconds.
