Two Phil’s leads eight in Ohio Derby

Kentucky Derby runner-up Two Phil’s and Wood Memorial winner Lord Miles headline a field of eight 3-year-olds for the Grade 3, $500,000 Ohio Derby, set for Saturday at Thistledown in North Randall.

Two Phil’s, trained by Larry Rivelli, ran a gallant second in the Kentucky Derby, racing near a hot pace and assuming the lead at the head of the stretch before being overhauled by Mage. With regular jockey Jareth Loveberry named to ride, the colt drew post 4 in the field of eight for Saturday.

Lord Miles, who will have Edgard Zayas aboard as he breaks from post 7, comes in having not started since his $120.50 upset in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial on April 8. He was entered in the Kentucky Derby, but was scratched following the unexplained deaths of two horses also trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. early in the Churchill Downs meet.
