$250,000 Goodtimes Final
Owned by Gestion Jean-Yves Blais, Gaines Hanover only held on by a neck over the one below in his elimination for this stakes event last week as the 1/5 favorite but was not under nearly as much urging when approaching the wire. He stopped the clock in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.1 and was only making his second start of the season after a strong two-year-old campaign that was capped off by a victory in the Breeders Crown last October at this venue.
This son of Cantab Hall disappointed at 30 cents to the dollar in a condition race in his sophomore debut on May 29th but was at a huge pace disadvantage in that contest before rumbling home in 26.1 to be second off a back-half in 54.1.
He should be ready to produce his absolute best in his third start back after a lengthy layoff. He has post 2 and will driving by Louis-Philippe Roy.
$420,000 Fan Hanover Final
Sylvia Hanover was nothing short of breathtaking last week when she was first-over for most of the mile before pacing past the second choice Beach Cowgirl with ease in the stretch after that rival was able to get away with a cheap half on the engine. She was not under much urging when she kicked away by more lengths under the wire and lowered her lifetime mark by a second when she stopped the clock in 1:49.2.
This daughter of Always B Miki owned by Hudson Standrdbrd is a perfect two-for-two to kick off her sophomore campaign and impressively scored from off the pace against older horses in condition race on May 27th.
She has never been beaten when she starts with her nose on the gate and looks like she will once again be the dominant force in this division after going eight for nine at two with over $900,000 in earnings.
