Undefeated Be Perfect BG Faces Her Toughest Test Yet

At 10h23, on June 12, 2026 By Laurent Sauvé

Harness racing fans will have their eyes on Woodbine Mohawk this Saturday, June 13, as a spectacular 13-race card featuring more than $2.5 million in purses will be presented as part of the 43rd running of the prestigious Pepsi North America Cup. In addition to the $1 million feature event, several Grade 1 and Grade 2 stakes races will further enhance what is shaping up to be an exceptional evening of racing.

Race 11 on the card will showcase the continent’s top three-year-old pacers in the North America Cup. Much of the spotlight will be on morning-line favourite Beau Jangles, winner of 15 of his 16 career starts, as well as Odds On Mr Mamba, the impressive winner of his elimination. Melillo, Redland Rocket Man, Sweet Lovin Lou, Lindy, Azrael Blue Chip, Al Papi, No Waitlist and Brandon Blvd will also be looking to add their names to the honour roll of one of North America’s most prestigious races.

For many Quebec racing fans, however, Race 10 could attract just as much attention. The $420,000 Fan Hanover Final will bring together an outstanding group of three-year-old pacing fillies. Among them, Be Perfect BG stands out as one of the leading contenders, having proven since her debut that she belongs among the elite of her generation for owners Gaston and Éric Bibeau and Écurie CSL of Sorel-Tracy.

The daughter of Perfect Sting made her career debut at Hippodrome 3R as a two-year-old, posting an impressive victory in 1:57.2 and displaying her potential from the outset. While the filly quickly proved she was worth far more than her purchase price, she also presented a few challenges to her connections along the way.

“The filly was purchased as a weanling for a price that allowed us to take a calculated risk. My father, Gaston, started training her, and she certainly kept him busy. She had plenty of personality,” recalled Éric Bibeau.

But as a seasoned horseman, Gaston Bibeau had seen it all before. Both in the barn and on the racetrack, the filly quickly learned her lessons. Following her promising debut in Quebec, Be Perfect BG was transferred to Ontario trainer Anthony Beaton, and she has remained undefeated through nine starts. She established a lifetime mark of 1:50.1 at age two in the New Jersey Sire Stakes Final, then lowered that mark to 1:48.4 last week while pacing fractions of :26.4, :54.4 and 1:22 in her Fan Hanover elimination.

“The first time I sat behind her, I thought she was a special filly; she continues to show us that every day,” said trainer Tony Beaton.

Even though her connections regard her as an exceptional filly, the competition will be formidable. Champion Loua Dipa, who captured her Fan Hanover elimination in a sparkling 1:48.3, will be one of her main rivals. With career earnings of $1.1 million, Loua Dipa is the richest filly in the field. She will leave from post three with Ronnie Wrenn in the sulky. Be Perfect BG will start from post five with Dexter Dunn at the controls.

In addition to the North America Cup and the Fan Hanover, three other exciting finals will be contested: the Goodtimes ($240,000), the Ambro Flight ($215,000), and the Roses Are Red ($320,000), along with the Mohawk Gold Cup ($100,000).

First post is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday as Woodbine Mohawk hosts one of North America’s premier nights of racing this season.
