Racing fans were treated to both a top colt extending his win streak and a 1/5 favorite getting defeated in the two $10,000 divisions of the Breeders Trophy Series for three-year-old trotters at the Hippodrome 3R (H3R) Friday (July 26) in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.

First up was the 5th race division for the trotting colts and as expected, the race favorite, Captain PV (Wheeling N Dealin), did not disappoint his fans as he posted his fifth straight victory.

Leaving from post two, Captain PV and driver Marie-Claude Auger went right to the front with Last Try (Jerome Lombart) sitting the two-hole trip. They went by the opening quarter mile in :28.4. Then the half mile in :59.3 as Drinklikehenry (William Roy) was parked out first-over to no avail.

Then in the backstretch, Wild Dream Man (Guy Gagnon) came three-wide around Drinklikehenry and dropped in the two-hole by three quarters in 1:29.3.

Captain PV continued to hold the field at bay, going on to win by two and one-half lengths in 1:59.2. Wild Dream Man was second with HP Run Detector (Robert Shepherd) third.

It was a lifetime mark and the fifth win in eight starts this season for Captain PV wjo paid $3.00 to win for trainer Serge Nadeau, who co-owns the colt with the Y Corriveau, Inc. Stables.

The 6th race second division of the Breeders Trophy Series was for the fillies and the 1/5 favorite, Sensi Amnesia and driver-trainer Marie-Claude Auger, went right out to the early lead.

With MVPs Daughter (My MVP) and trainer-driver Jerome Lombart sitting right on their backs, Sensi Amnesia cut fractions of :29.3, 1:00 and 1:30.2 and that was when Lombart came out of the two-hole and came after Sensi Amnesia with MVPs Daughter.

Those two would battle it out around the final turn and as they started down the stretch, MVPs Daughter dug in and beat Sensi Amnesia at the wire by a half a length in 2:00.2. HP Agathe (Pascal Berube) was third.

Bred and owned by Jerome Lombart of Bromont, Que, it was the second win this season for MVPs Daughter, who at odds of 8-1, paid $19.20 to win.

In the 3rd race $6,500 Preferred-Handicap Trot, Frido PV (Muscle Mass) and driver Pascal Berube had little trouble wiring the field by a diminishing half a length in 1:59.2 over the late closing Only For Justice (Francis Picard) with race favorite X O X O (Denis St Pierre) third. The winner paid $12.60.

Track Notes: Marie-Claude Auger finished the day with a driving triple while Pascal Berube had a driving double and Daniel Mondou had a training double. Live racing resumes at H3R on Sunday (July 28) with first race post time at 12:00 noon. Featured will be the second round of the Breeders Trophy Series for the pacers with four divisions featuring return winners Boomboom Tonight, The Heart Valley and Olaf Du Lac.
