Next Sunday, May 17, Flamboro Downs will host one of the most anticipated spring events in the harness racing world with the prestigious final of the Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup. This Grade 2 event, contested over Flamboro’s half-mile oval, annually brings together North America’s top four-year-old pacers. Formerly known as the Confederation Cup, the classic now honors the late Charles Juravinski, founder of Flamboro Downs and one of Ontario racing’s great builders.
The 2026 edition promises to be spectacular, with an exceptionally strong final field confirmed following the eliminations held on May 10.
Among the favorites is Prince Hal Hanover, the Ian Moore trainee who has already demonstrated tremendous speed over the half-mile track and boasts an impressive résumé. The son of Captaintreacherous arrived at Flamboro following a convincing 1:50.1 victory at Miami Valley Raceway in his seasonal debut. In last Sunday’s elimination, he controlled the pace from start to finish in 1:49.1, defeating Sugar Man. Just minutes later, however, the Canadian record he had established was erased from the books.
Bruno No No No will likely be the bettors’ favorite following his sensational performance last week. The standout David Menary trainee became the fastest pacer in the history of Flamboro Downs and shattered the Canadian record for a pacer on a half-mile track by stopping the clock in 1:48.2 with Doug McNair in the bike. In doing so, Bruno No No No wiped Prince Hal Hanover’s mark from the record books.
Sunday’s final is shaping up as a true match race between these two lightning-fast rivals, who drew post positions three and two respectively.
As for Sugar Man, he could take advantage of the rail position to slip through and spring an upset under the guidance of Louis-Philippe Roy.
The Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup remains one of Canada’s premier events for four-year-olds and will headline Race 10 with a purse of $259,500.
First post Sunday at Flamboro Downs is 6:25 p.m.
