For the second consecutive week, the new star of the Québec-Bred Series, Boomboom Tonight, proved his superiority on Sunday at Hippodrome Trois-Rivières, cruising to another front-end victory in 1:54.3 with Francis Picard in the bike.
Leaving from post four, the son of Sportswriter carved out fractions of :27.4, :57.2, and 1:26.1 before holding off Bets Beach by half a length to record his second win of the season. The two rivals will meet again next week in the $25,000 Québec-Bred Series Final.
In the mares’ division, Godiva Shadow Girl narrowly held off Islamabad in 1:56.4 for driver William Roy. The winner had also captured the opening preliminary leg and this week was sent off as the bettors’ top choice.
In the other mares’ division, Shanghaibluebeach responded gamely to the urging of driver Jocelyn Gendron, defeating the favored Whitemountaincammy in 1:58.3. The victory improved her seasonal record to two wins from eight starts.
Driver Pascal Bérubé enjoyed a three-win afternoon, highlighted by Allstar Playboy’s dead-heat with Deal Speed (William Roy) in 1:55. The two rivals had the crowd on its feet through the stretch, with the photo finish unable to separate them at the wire.
The next live racing program at Hippodrome Trois-Rivières is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, with the first race set for 5:30 p.m.
