Freehold Raceway will wrap up a successful 48-day Winter/Spring meet this Saturday (May 29) with a 13-race card starting at about 12:30 p.m.

As usual, the Saturday card features full fields and interesting betting races. The featured event is a non-winners of $8,000 last five pace, with a full field of eight. The favorites include Ozone Blue Chip, who has hit the board in his last three races for trainer Ron Coyne Jr.; Dull Roar, who won at this level last time for trainer John Wyatt; and Ruthless Dude, a winner of two in a row for trainer Izzy Estrada. It’ll go as the eighth race, with a scheduled post time of 2:50 p.m.

Austin Siegelman has already wrapped up the winter/spring driving title, with 99 wins going into Friday’s program. If he gets one more, he’ll become the first driver to win at least 100 races at the winter/spring meet since Eric Abbatiello in 2016.

The training race will come right down to the wire. Mike Posner and Scott DiDomenico are currently tied atop the standings with 15 wins apiece. They each have four horses entered this weekend. Izzy Estrada, Bill MacKenzie, and John Urbanski are all in hot pursuit, with 14 wins each. Estrada, who has won multiple races each of the past two Saturdays, has four horses entered this weekend, all on Saturday. MacKenzie has one entry on Friday, while Urbanski will send out three on Saturday.

Freehold fans will likely be on milestone watch this weekend. As of Wednesday afternoon, Jim Marohn Jr. had 4,994 career wins. With several drives both Friday and Saturday, he’s in position to get to 5,000 wins sometime this weekend at Freehold.

Following Saturday’s card, live racing will cease at Freehold for the next three months, during the annual summer break. Live racing resumes on Friday (Aug. 27).
