Kitodan, Play Action Pass Return in Kentucky Downs’s $500K Tapit

At 1h13, on August 30, 2023 By KENTUCKY DOWNS

An overflow field that includes last year’s stakes-winners Kitodan and Play Action Pass was entered Saturday for Thursday’s $500,000 FanDuel Tapit Stakes, the opening-day feature of the seven-day FanDuel Meet at Kentucky Downs.

The all-grass meet runs Aug. 31 and Sept. 2, 3, 7 9, 10 and 13 over America’s only European-style course.

Post time for the first of 10 races is 2:30 p.m., with the Tapit carded as the ninth (approximate post 6:54 p.m.). The Tapit, at a mile and 70 yards, is for 3-year-olds and up that have not won a stakes in 2023.

Kitodan is racing for only the second time since he won last year’s Grade 3 Dueling Grounds Derby (then worth $750,000) by four lengths at Kentucky Downs. Combined with winning Churchill Downs’ Audubon Stakes and Turfway Park’s Rushaway, the $80,000 claim was voted the National HBPA’s Claiming Horse of the Year. Off an 11-month layoff, Kitodan tired to 10th in the 1 1/4-mile Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Cup at Ellis Park.
