NYSS trots into Tioga on Friday

Tioga Downs welcomes four New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old trotters — two for each sex — on Friday (June 9).

Cecil Hanover (Åke Svanstedt) headlines the $57,000 first division for colts and geldings, which will be contested as a non-wagering event. The gelding by Chapter Seven opened his sophomore season with a NYSS win at Vernon Downs.

The Gruffalo (Scott Zeron) is the 9-5 morning line favorite in the boys’ $57,000 second division. The colt by Chapter Seven fell just short against Cecil Hanover at Vernon, and will look to build upon almost $240,000 in career earnings in his second start of the season.

The Annie Stoebe-trained Instagram Model (Scott Zeron) is the 3-1 morning line choice in the $59,200 first division for fillies. The daughter of Chapter Seven finished second in a NYSS leg at Vernon Downs. She had five wins as a 2-year-old and now has won almost $270,000 in purses.

In the fillies’ $60,300 second division, Sadie Hanover (Scott Zeron) is the 2-1 morning line choice. Linda Toscano trains the filly by Chapter Seven, who is three-for-three this season after an impressive NYSS win at Vernon Downs.

The NYSS non-betting race will start at 6 p.m; the 14-race betting card starts at 6:15 p.m.
