Rematch on Tap at Trois-Rivières

After being sent off as the bettors’ favorite in last Sunday’s Quebec-Bred Series final, trotting mare Chic Choc Rose unfortunately went off stride at the entrance to the stretch just as she had joined the leaders. On Thursday, the Carl Duguay trainee will have a chance to redeem herself in the evening’s featured event at Hippodrome Trois-Rivières.

Driven by Pascal Bérubé, the daughter of Royalty For Life will leave from post seven and faces a stiff challenge against a competitive field that includes Prince Of Sussex, who will be looking for his third consecutive victory with driver Francis Picard. Last Sunday, the son of Creatine battled gamely with Royalty B N in a 1:58.2 mile to record his second win in five starts this season.

The ninth race features several serious contenders, including Mass Speed and Kenogami Coco, both of whom turned in strong performances despite being defeated last Sunday.

With the Coupe de l’Avenir just around the corner, several two-year-olds will make their racing debuts, eager to showcase their talent in their freshman season.

Among the trotters, P C Triton impressed in qualifying with a :29.4 final quarter before finishing second in 2:05.3. The son of Trixton will be driven by his owner-trainer, Claude Beausoleil.

The fifth race on the card is reserved for the young pacers, with Heart Of Joy installed as the morning-line favorite for his second career start for trainer-driver Marie-Claude Auger. After winning both of his qualifying races, Heart Of Joy finished third last week in a 1:59 mile.

Trainer David Pilon’s coupled entry will also attract plenty of attention. Hollywood Ending paced his final half-mile in :59.2 during qualifying and will leave from the rail. The son of Bettors Delight was purchased for US$17,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale last October.

His stablemate, Thunder BG, bred by Gaston Bibeau, appears to have a very bright future based on his impressive qualifying victory in 2:02.4 last Saturday.

Fans are invited to enjoy a 10-race program, with the first race scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
