Sprint in the last stretch

On September 28th in Santa Anita in the 6th race (The Eddie D Stake $ 100,000 – 6½ Furlongs | Grass), a Win and Placed bet on No 3 Stormy Liberal, an Exacta on 3 with 2,6,8,9 and a Trifecta on 3 (1st and 2nd) with 2,6,8,9 with 2,6,7,8,9. No 8 Conquest Tsunami is the pure speed of this race and its game plan is likely to be known to all: to go forward. But on his last start, he completely dropped anchor and finished 12th out of 12 entries. A return on a small distance will be beneficial but I believe that if someone looks in his eye, he will tend to give up. No 6 Cistron performs excessively well over a short distance and on grass but the 0 in 4 in 2018 leaves me perplexed. These are, however, things that happen to four-years-old who have to run against horses week after week. No 2 Caribou Club is the most classy horse but it will have to support 125 pounds, which is heavy for a short distance especially when the weather is nice and the grass is dry. It does not rain often in California. No 3 Stormy Liberal, Peter Miller’s second horse (the other is No 8), should benefit from the speed of his team mate Conquest Tsunami, who likes to be in the leader group. He should wait for the last stretch to give his best and he often gets his way with seven wins in those last twelve starts.
