Wild Like The West Among Wide-Open Group Of 3-Year-Old Fillies Entered In Sunday’s Providencia Stakes

At 0h03, on April 5, 2026 By Santa Anita Park

Featured on closing day of the Santa Anita Classic Meet this Sunday is the $100,000 Providencia Stakes, which attracted a wide-open group of 3-year-old fillies that will battle over 1 1/8 miles on turf. The Providencia is part of a 10-race card that closes out the 2025-26 Classic Meet at Santa Anita Park. There will be mandatory payouts in all pari-mutuel pools including the $2 Pick 6, $1 Sunset Pick Six, $1 Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 and $1 Super High 5. First post is 3 p.m.

In the Providencia, Wild Like the West will look for a stakes breakthrough for trainer Richard Baltas. Two starts back in the Blue Norther Stakes going one mile on turf, Wild Like the West had the lead in the stretch but was overtaken late to lose by a neck. The daughter of Into Mischief returned in an allowance, also at one mile on turf, on Feb. 6 when she again led in the stretch before being outfinished to lose by a half-length.

A $150,00 auction buy as a yearling, Wild Like the West is owned by Sayjay Racing. She’ll have regular rider Juan Hernandez aboard.
