Quebec-Bred Series Kicks Off at Trois-Rivières on Thursday

With the first Thursday evening card of the season taking place this week at Trois-Rivières, the Quebec-Bred Series for older trotters gets underway, featuring several high-caliber performers. Twelve horses and five mares, all aged four and older, were entered, including defending champions Paradise Moni and MVPS Daughter.

In the first of two male divisions, scheduled as Race 2, Paradise Moni will leave from post two for driver Denis St-Pierre and trainer Kevin Maguire. Last year, the son of International Moni enjoyed a remarkable campaign with 11 victories and earnings of $90,747. In the Quebec-Bred championship final, Paradise Moni rallied first-over before taking command turning for home to defeat his rivals in 1:57. He later stood out at Saratoga Raceway, where he stopped the clock in 1:56.2 over the half-mile oval.

This season, Paradise Moni has gradually returned to top form following a four-month layoff, scoring a 1:57 victory last week at Flamboro Downs. Other contenders include Frido PV, Drinklikehenry, Kenogami Coco, Royal Duharas, and Im Just A Gigolo.

In the other division, Royalty Beer has earned the handicapper’s nod, and for good reason. The Kevin Maguire trainee, who finished second in the 2025 championship event, made his mark on the Ontario circuit, highlighted by a lifetime-best 1:53.3 mile on May 3 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Last season, Royalty Beer made 16 starts, recording four wins and three second-place finishes while earning $116,450. On Thursday, he will attempt to lower the track record of 1:54 that he established in 2024. Last Try, Cleveland Massimo, Timonier, Le Grand Monark, and Mass Speed round out the field in Race 8.

Five mares will compete in Race 4, including MVPS Daughter, winner of last year’s series championship in 1:58.4. Driven by Francis Picard for trainer Jérôme Lombart, the 5-year-old daughter of My MVP will face a strong challenge in a competitive field. Greenleaf, Chic Choc Rose, Stella Alpha, and Sant Ambroggio are all expected to contend strongly.

The 10-race program gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
